(Obama's message of increased minimum wage gives some hope ...)--April 11, 2014
There is a bill before Congress that would boost America’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour…Passing this bill would not just raise wages for minimum-wage workers; it would help lift wages for nearly 28 million Americans, including nearly a million people right here in Michigan,” Obama said during his speech.
In this article it talked about the pending actions of Barack Obama wanting to increase the minimum wage to 10.10 and hour. In his perspective this will help lift wages for 28 million americans. This positive impact on the economy is what the president is trying to impose on us because if he lowers the minimum wage it will assist many americans with their economic problems. In my opinion if he did this I think it would affect the economy in a negative way because if he increased the minimum wage to 10.10 an hour then that means the prices will go up also in the stores which cause the aggregate demand to decrease. The president claims that by increasing the minimum wage it will get many americans out of poverty right away but I believe he is failing to see that the economy will end up having the same problem as before.

(Mississippi passes Arizona-style religious freedom bill)--April 11, 2014
Mississippi legislators on Tuesday took up and quickly passed a controversial religious freedom bill that could allow state residents to sue over laws they say place a substantial burden on their religious practices.
In this article it talked about Mississippi passing a religious freedom bill that would protect the rights and beliefs of religious people. This ended up causing a large protest/conflict with the gay/lesbian groups because they thought that the bill was going to start discrimination against them. eventually the bill was vetoed and said to be unconstitutional by the first amendment of the constitution. In my opinion I think that they shouldn't be imposing a bill that is going to cause discrimination against gays/lesbians because it violates the first amendment of the constitution. This is why the courts had to veto the bill because it was said to be unconstitutional.

('Moral Monday' movement leader coming to Mid-Missouri)--April 11, 2014
An incipient movement for direct action to promote Medicaid expansion, block voter ID laws and support education funding over tax cuts will bring high-powered help to Columbia to learn how civil disobedience and other action is putting pressure on lawmakers in North Carolina and elsewhere.
In this article it talked about how William Barber the leader of the Moral Monday is trying to promote Medicaid expansion and block voter ID laws. He is also supporting the education funding over tax cuts. The Moral Monday is a great cause if it is targeting the promotion of medicaid expansion because it will help the healthcare problems for many struggling people. The education funding for tax cuts is good because an education is very important, and is required in order to be successful in life.

(Utah Gay-Marriage Appeal Seen as Rehearsal for Supreme Court)--April 11, 2014
Gay-marriage bans struck down in Utah and Oklahoma are the first to come before a federal appeals panel since a June U.S. Supreme Court ruling set off a string of challenges to limits on same-sex marriage.
In this article it talks about gay marriage bans in utah and Oklahoma which cause a large protest by the people of utah and Oklahoma who support gay marriage. In the court case U.S vs Windsor he recognized the defense of marriage act which declared a right to gay marriage. In my opinion the government should not be allowed to make gay marriage illegal in certain states because of the first amendment stated in the constitution and because of the defense of marriage act. For those two reasons the government can't make gay marriage illegal in certain states.
(Public Policy-House approves $12 billion-plus water bill)--May 20, 2014
The House passed the closest thing so far this year to an infrastructure bill — a $12 billion-plus bipartisan measure authorizing 34 water projects, ranging from flood protection in California and North Dakota to deepening the Port of Savannah and widening a Texas-Louisiana waterway that services the oil industry.
In this article talks about how the House of Representatives passed a bill that authorized water projects that ranged form California to North Dakota. This infrastructure bill was meant to deepen the port of savannah and widen the texas-louisiana waterway that services the oil industry. Everyone argued that the bill was a big waste in government spending but it also created the opportunity for more jobs in the United States. The bill was sent to the president for his final signature in which he signed the bill and enacted the government policy that founded the waterway projects and also founded more jobs in the U.S along with more pork barrel spending.
